Electric Arc Furnace (EAF)

Electric Arc Furnace

The Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF) produce about 30% of the world’s crude steel. The Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) melts the steel scrap with high-power electric arcs striking between consumable graphite electrodes and the scrap. The bottom of an EAF usually consists of a dead burned magnesia-brick safety lining and a hearth ramming mix above that lining. The sidewalls of the furnace within the slag area are covered with magnesia-carbon bricks, while above the slag level the sidewalls consist of water-cooled panels.

Different materials are suitable for the repairs of the sidewalls (GRECMAGN GUN series), for the banks (GRECMAGN FRIT series) and for the bottom hearth (GRECMAGN RAM series) of the furnace. The aim of the refractory materials is to withstand slag corrosion and prolong the operation life of the magnesia-carbon bricks. Furthermore, special filling materials are used for the filling of the eccentric bottom tap of the furnaces (GRECMAGN TAP series), that needs to open at the time when the heating cycle is complete.

Utilization of our own dead burned magnesia and dunite grades as raw materials, along with the capability of our mixing plant to produce in small batches, gives us the flexibility to meet almost any customer’s requirements in terms of physical and chemical properties of the final products.
