Community Engagement
Grecian Magnesite understands and appreciates the vital role the local community plays in the sustainability of our company. The company has been mining magnesite in the region for more than half a century, and we consider ourselves proud members of the local community.
Grecian Magnesite aims to ensure that our business practices contribute to long-term economic and social development. We act as a responsible and supportive member of the local society, and help create value for the society, develop the local industry and community by using local employees, local service providers and contractors.
We have a strong history of supporting community initiatives in the region where we operate through social events, fundings, donations, infrastructure and services, in-kind professional support and even just lending a hand where needed.

Some of our actions:
We boost the local industry and economy on a mission to create added value for society. Many materials and spare parts used in production come from local manufacturers and service providers (resource planning, maintenance, etc.).
We have been organizing blood donation events in our Yerakini mine site for over 30 years already. Up to date, we have managed to collect 2.362 blood units, and donated 2.133 blood units to our employees, their relatives, and our fellow citizens.
We support our community through annual sponsorships and donations, such as donating inert materials (aggregate products) for public infrastructure to the Central Macedonia Prefecture and the Municipalities of Chalkidiki. Every year, the company's total budget to support the local and regional community (infrastructure, support to local associations, participation in development initiatives, scholarships, and awards) amounts to hundreds of thousand euros.
We join forces with Chalkidiki authorities to confront natural disasters (fire, floods, etc.), providing equipment and personnel.
Every summer, Grecian Magnesite offers up to 40 paid internships for adult children of our employees to provide professional experience and guidance. The program involves the enrollment of 25 to 40 young individuals, students or junior professionals, in various departments within the company. Positions are appointed according to interns’ skills and academic background and are fully compensated based on state salary standards. Interns work alongside the company’s senior staff members, where they have the opportunity to experience a well-structured industrial work environment and hone skills required for their future careers within Grecian Magnesite or wherever life takes them.
We stand next to our community's youth, organizing student tours to the mine sites and introducing them to the rich mineral heritage of their homeland and its contribution to the national economy. Also, we host visits for university students from all over Greece every year.
We offer our premises to local youth councils to host theatrical performances and concerts.
