Our cutting-edge X-ray-based mineral processing line is now fully operational

Athens, Greece – January 05, 2023 -- Grecian Magnesite S.A. (“GM”), announces today that it has successfully completed the construction of a new mineral processing line to produce additional volumes and a wider range of medium to high-end raw magnesite grades for feeding the company’s kilns.

With a nominal capacity to process/beneficiate an additional 30tph of pre-concentrated magnesite, the new line will significantly increase productivity, improve mineral recovery, and boost the output quality of the fine RoM (Run of Mine) fractions. The fractions come from “fresh” production or the >50 million mt old stockpiles as part of our circular economy agenda.

The €1-million project combines innovative concepts with next-generation technologies. The X-ray transmission technology enables materials to be recognized and separated based on their specific atomic density, while precise air ejection valves lead to high separation performance and cost-effectiveness of processing. The key facilities in the plant are the ore storage and handling, washing and classification, “sensor based / X-ray high-throughput sorting technology” & storage silos.

Commercial production successfully started in December 2022, with more than 2.000mt of raw magnesite being produced with highly positive results regarding both technical/operational performance and product quality.
