Being part of the exciting future for mining! Grecian Magnesite joins PERSEPHONE Project to Pioneer Sustainable Ore Extraction Technologies
Acknowledging the importance of the harmonious synergy between human safety, environmental goals and growth, we joined PERSEPHONE project, an EU Horizon initiative focused on advancing technology for sustainable ore extraction.
PERSEPHONE's mission is to develop innovative technologies for resource-efficient extraction of the EU's raw materials, focusing on near mine exploration in untapped ore bodies. The project aims to facilitate the green transition by reducing costs and waste from underground mining operations and to enhance human safety by ensuring the absence of mining workers in hazardous sites.
As a key participant, Grecian Magnesite will contribute expertise in exploration, drilling, excavation, and characterization and will also provide access to its abandoned/suspended underground sites in Evia, including the fully electric Koutzi underground mine.
"We are more than ready to work with our fellow project members to share our expertise and drive sustainable and innovative advancements in ore extraction technology and development of dynamic digital twins, said Dr. George Bourmas, General Manager of GM’s Koutzi UG Mine. “We firmly believe that the project will achieve breakthroughs that will reshape the future of ore extraction and exploration to the benefit of people and the environment.".
The PERSEPHONE Project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No.101138451.
