Grecian Magnesite Invests in Second X-Ray Sorting Line: Another key step in our circular economy agenda
Athens, Greece – 12/02/2025 – Grecian Magnesite S.A. (“GM”) is advancing its circular economy initiatives with a €1,5 million investment in a second X-ray-based mineral processing line, featuring AI-driven technology. Set to be operational within Q2 2025, this new line will further increase the utilization of fine Run of Mine (RoM) stockpiles, reducing reliance on new mining activities and optimizing resource utilization.
With more than 50 million metric tons of fine RoM stockpiles, previously considered waste due to technological limitations, Grecian Magnesite continues to transform these materials into valuable products. The first X-ray sorting line, operational since early 2023, together with the recently commissioned Optical Sorting Line, has already increased the share of old stockpiles in total magnesite production to 16% in 2024. The addition of the second X-ray-based processing line will push this figure beyond 35%, further enhancing sustainability and productivity.
With this latest initiative, Grecian Magnesite continues to lead the industry in resource-efficient mineral processing, demonstrating its dedication to sustainability, innovation, and responsible raw material utilization.
